"Health and social service providers often do not recognize the warning signs of substance abuse and mental health problems. They may attribute the symptoms of a substance abuse or mental health problem among older adults to the natural course of aging. They may avoid the topic because of the stigma associated with substance abuse and mental illness. In some cases, providers may believe that they're not capable of helping, or they may believe that treatment doesn't work-that it's not even worth trying. As a result, seniors in need of assistance may never receive adequate care, even though treatment is effective and has tremendous potential to improve the health and quality of life of many older adults."

Elder Community Care can provide:
- Comprehensive mental health/substance abuse assessment
- In-home counseling
- Telephone call befriending service (TeleCheck)
- In-home personal monitoring system (TeleHelp)
- Access to 24 hour emergency response
- Medication management by a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
- Referral to community resources and services
ECC utilizes the principle that elders have a right to receive counseling services specifically designed to meet their needs.
ECC can provide some services free of charge. Extended treatment may be arranged through insurance or on a fee-for-service basis with the elder's permission. There are no income eligibility requirements. ECC services are available to individuals aged 60 and older living in Ashland, Dover, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Natick, Northborough, Sherborn, Southborough, Sudbury, Wayland, Westborough.
